5 Things to Know Before Your First Float in Jackson, MO

Local, practical, and a little reassuring: here's what we tell every first-time floater walking through our door in Uptown Jackson.

Float 42 suite vanity with robe and slippers

Float 42 is the only sensory float studio in Southeast Missouri, which means most people walking through our door in Uptown Jackson have never floated before. Here are the five things we find ourselves explaining most, the kind of thing you'd want to know before you book, not after you arrive.

1. It's closer than you think

We're tucked into the historic building at 113 W Main Street, about 10 minutes from Cape Girardeau. If you've never been to Uptown Jackson, it's worth the short drive, the building also houses The Healing Academy, and check-in happens in their waiting room.

2. The quiet afterward is normal

This is the one nobody expects. Most first-time floaters go unusually quiet for the next day or two, not in a bad way, just still, a little slow, sometimes mildly disoriented. It tends to surprise people the first time, until they realize it's simply what happens when your nervous system gets a level of quiet it hasn't had in years. Then, once it passes, most people can't stop telling people about it. More on that here.

3. You're never locked in

The float suite is private and spacious, and you control everything: lights on or off, music or silence, lid open or closed. You can sit up or step out any time. If claustrophobia is a worry, this is usually the thing that puts people at ease before they even get in. Full walkthrough of your first visit →

4. Skip the shave, and don't show up starving

Two small things make a real difference: avoid shaving or waxing within about 8 hours of your float (the salt will let you know if you didn't), and avoid a big meal beforehand. A light snack an hour or two before is ideal. Everything else, towels, earplugs, shower products, slippers, is already in your suite.

5. Ninety minutes, start to finish

Plan for about 90 minutes total: arrive 15 minutes early, float for 60 minutes, and take another 15 afterward to shower and ease back into the day. We run a single suite with a 30-minute cleaning turnover between every guest, which is part of why appointments are essential, and part of why nothing here ever feels rushed.

Most people start with the Pure Float at $89. If you're curious whether the Elevate Wellness Package is worth the upgrade for your first visit, reach out and we're happy to help you decide.
