Southeast Missouri's only float studio · Uptown Jackson

Set the whole world down for an hour.

One private suite. 1,200 pounds of Epsom salt. Water warmed to the exact temperature of your skin, until you can't feel where you end and it begins. This is floatation: the deepest rest your nervous system has ever been handed. And it's hidden in plain sight on Main Street.

About 10 minutes from Cape Girardeau Floats from $89 94–95°F skin-temp water 60 minutes, zero gravity

The secret on Main Street

You've never been this far from the noise.

Floatation takes everything your senses are constantly managing (gravity, temperature, light, sound, the weight of your own body) and quietly switches it off. What's left is you, suspended, with nothing asked of you.

You're never locked in. Lights on or off, lid open or closed, sit up or step out whenever you want. Most people never want to, but the choice is always yours.

People come out of their first float and do the same two things, just not at the same time. First, they go quiet, often for a day or two. It's not unusual to feel unusually still, even a little disoriented, in the 24 to 48 hours afterward, simply because most people haven't felt that level of quiet in years and don't quite know what to do with it. Then, once it settles in, they start telling everyone they know. There's nothing else like it within a hundred miles. We intend to keep it that way.

In a controlled study at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research, a single float session produced measurable drops in stress, muscle tension and blood pressure, with the calming, mood-lifting effect lasting well beyond the hour itself. Why "42"?

In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the answer to life, the universe and everything turns out to be 42.

The joke is that the answer was the easy part. It's the question nobody could remember. Floating is the rare hour where you stop performing long enough for your own questions to surface. We named the place after the punchline. The rest of the story →
